I recently graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Transitioning from a non-conventional background in civil engineering, I was drawn to this field by my passion for design and problem-solving. My disability often feels like a superpower, as my hyperactivity enhances my critical thinking skills, which are crucial for solving complex problems. It also enables me to quickly identify patterns and details when processing research data or coming up with innovative ideas.
Ideal Workplace Values
An ideal workplace, from my perspective, is one that values and promotes autonomy, giving employees the freedom to take ownership of their projects and make meaningful contributions. It pushes individuals to reach their full potential by providing challenging opportunities and encouraging continuous growth and development.Growth opportunities are abundant, with clear pathways for career advancement and personal development. Collaboration is highly valued, fostering a team environment where everyone works together towards common goals. Clear communication between teams and decision-makers is essential, ensuring transparency and alignment across the organization.Diversity is acknowledged and celebrated, but everyone is treated equally, creating an inclusive environment where all employees feel respected and valued. Finally, a healthy work-life balance is prioritized, recognizing that employees perform best when they can manage their personal and professional lives effectively.

My mind is a whirlwind of connections and possibilities, and I attribute much of that to my ADHD. Instead of distraction, I see a constant analysis of my surroundings – I pick up on patterns others may miss, and my brain races to pull them together. This means I rarely accept things at face value. I see problems begging for solutions, and I have an irresistible urge to find them. It's partly why I left the structured predictability of civil engineering for the more fluid world of product design.Creativity and problem-solving are inseparable for me. I'm not just building a solution; I'm crafting a better experience. This mindset fuels my constant learning – I need to understand every facet of a design challenge to break it open and build something truly impactful. It's a relentless drive, and I thrive on the possibility of finding that elegant solution that creates waves of positive change.
