Beau Shenkenberg
I am a recent college graduate from the University of Northern Colorado with a Political Science Degree. My whole life I have lived with Aspergers and OCD and these experiences have given me a unique perspective on life. I am looking for a job that requires in depth thinking, precision, creativity and ways to support Neurodivergents. The role I look for is to help assess and figure out what kinds of work environments and roles individuals with OCD and ASD will succeed in. As someone with OCD who likes to help others, I would love a role to be supportive of other co-workers with Neurodivergence. I would seek a role to study the economy and understand causes and effects of economic booms and busts. I would like to apply how placing Neurodivergent individuals into the right jobs would effect the economy and society.
Ideal Workplace Values
I enjoy working in an environment that is predictable, structured, supportive and have opportunities for skill development. Ideally I would enjoy activities that have variety and are intellectually stimulating, low stress, and creative. I would like to avoid highly chaotic or unpredictable environments, stressful, fast paced, consistently changing and negative work environments. Ideally I would like to work with colleagues that are supportive and understanding. I would like to avoid a culture of consistent negativity and unsupportive colleagues. I prefer to work in an environment where it is predictable and not constantly changing where assignments are concrete and instructions are black and white. Whenever I make mistakes, I prefer to have the opportunity to understand what my mistake was and then how to properly correct the mistake. I also prefer repetitive work that is highly detailed and allows me to utilize my hyper focus and deep thinking. The ideal work environment would be a workplace with little to no social interaction. I would prefer not to have a role where decision making, managing and giving verbal instruction is non existent. I would prefer a role where I am trained on how to perform my job and not have executive overload.

I have Aspergers Syndrome and many gifts that are currently being underutilized due to traditional barriers and lack of understanding of how this psychiatric condition works in the workplace. Aspergers has given me many exceptional strengths which can contribute to society in unconventional ways. My unique abilities include an exceptional memory for topics of special interest, research about topics of special interest, and the ability to utilize my hyper focus. I also can be very productive when tasks are repetitive and do not have to switch between tasks in a predictable and unchanging environment. I also can have exceptional writing skills once I have my confidence and traditional barriers are removed to allow me to be an efficient and competent worker. I also am more productive whenever I am physically active rather than sedentary, I am able to focus better and be more efficient whenever I am moving. Other strengths I have are endurance and resilience, whenever I have had challenges in life I would endure and complete my commitment.
